Sonoran Learning Collective is an innovative small group learning center in Cave Creek, AZ for students in 3rd - 6th grade. We provide classroom instruction in core academic subjects 2 days per week using a set curriculum. We partner with parents to complete remaining work at home the rest of the week.
Guided by Christian values, we seek to empower students in 3rd - 6th grade with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their academic path. Using a small group setting, we are committed to helping students achieve their goals and master core subjects each year.
We provide students with instruction in a classroom setting 2 days per week (Mondays and Tuesdays) and partner with parents to aide their student in completing remaining assignments at home before the following the week. Our teachers provide instruction for each subject, then work with students individually to make sure their unique needs are met.
We aim to give families the “best of both worlds” - traditional classroom instruction with one-to-one support along with a flexible schedule at home. We encourage parents to be present and involved in their child’s education by taking an active role as their child's teacher at home.
We provide instruction in core subjects so students have confidence in learning and progressing to the next levels in each of those subjects. We want to help families to know exactly what and how their child is learning, to set long term goals, and achieve those goals.
Our families are dedicated to and prioritize their child's education. We view parents as essential teaching partners so we communicate all classroom notes and assignments with parents. Parents should plan to participate in their child's education and have an active role in at-home instruction, spending 1-3 hours per day with their student on at-home days (depending on grade level and individual student needs).

We believe students should be proficient in expressing their thoughts in both written and verbal communication. We encourage students to answer questions in complete sentences orally and in their notebooks. The "paper and pencil" method reinforces retention of information, concentration, penmanship, and hand-eye coordination. This also gives parents an active role as editor, aiding their student in penmanship and writing skills.

Students attend classes on Mondays and Tuesdays. They are dropped off at 9:15am and the school day begins at 9:30am. The school days follow a traditional format where students receive subject- and grade-specific instruction from a teacher, in a classroom. Each day also includes time for recess, breaks, and lunch. Students are picked up at 3:30pm.
We follow a traditional school-year calendar, with classes beginning in August and ending in May. We observe seasonal and holiday breaks throughout the school year.
We have carefully selected a systematic curriculum plan so that students can receive instruction in core subjects and have the steps necessary to build upon each subject as they progress in grade level. Our curriculum has also been selected to be able to be used by any student, even if coming from a different academic background. We meet with students prior to enrollment to assess level placement and set individualized goals for each student. Please click here to see our curriculum overview.
Unit tests will be given in some subjects so parents are attuned to where their student is academically and know what needs to be focused on at home. We will regularly assess student skills and provide feedback to both parents and students. We do not issue report cards but can assist parents in creating a gradebook and report card template to be used at home if desired.
The amount of time spent on lessons at home depends on many factors, including family size, your student’s age and maturity, learning style and speed, and family dynamics. For at-home days, we suggest the following as a rough total estimate:
3rd Grade: 3 to to 5 hours
4th Grade: 4 to 5 hours
5th-6th Grade: 4 to 6 hours
Parents assume the role of “co-teacher.” During class days, our teachers introduce new concepts and provide a checklist for each subject that parents use at home with their student. In the role of teacher at home, parents should plan to spend time in each lesson with their student, giving additional instruction where needed. We encourage parents to actively participate in the curriculum by reading novels and using curriculum teacher manuals as a tool at home.
We are located in Cave Creek and serve the North Valley.
